How to Use Price Per Square Foot
Multiply the price per square foot by your roof’s total surface area (not your home’s footprint) to get a rough total. For a simple gable roof on a 1,800 sq ft house, the actual roof surface is typically 1,900–2,200 sq ft depending on pitch.
Use the price per sq ft as a sanity check when reviewing contractor bids. Bids dramatically below the low range may cut corners on materials or labor. Bids well above the high range may include unnecessary scope or simply be overpriced.
